Langhorne Creek’s Handpicked Festival is set to return this November, and its 2017 line-up is the biggest yet.
The boutique festival has just announced the first acts taking the stage on Saturday November 11 – featuring some heavyweight headliners.
Heading the bill are ARIA award-winning singer-songwriter Matt Corby and re-formed Aussie rockers Jet, who will perform their first set in South Australia in six years.
Joining them are Perth alternative-pop San Cisco and indie darlings The Jezabels, with more acts to be announced.
“It’s the biggest line up the Handpicked Festival has ever seen, so we’re so excited for music lovers to converge on Langhorne Creek’s Lake Breeze Wines for an epic day,” says Handpicked Event Organiser Kate Cooper.
Held at her family’s winery, the boutique festival has been putting the region on the map since its inception in 2014, attracting huge crowds from across the state, as well as acts like The Veronicas, Jessica Mabouy, Thirsty Merc, and Birds of Tokyo in previous years.
The winning recipe is a return to “old school” festival feel, says Kate.
With gourmet food-trucks, great wine, and rolling vineyards, Handpicked has proven the perfect place to roll out a picnic blanket, dance barefoot on the lawns, and shop for local arts, crafts, jewellery and homewares.
This year, festival goers can party well into the night with Handpicked providing a tent city with space for up to 500 punters, including glamping options.
Twenty-five-year-old Kate says she has worked around the clock to secure the big-name acts.
“To snag a huge international act like Jet who has sold more than 6.5 million albums and netted six ARIA Awards is incredibly exciting and such a big win for the state,” she says.
Singer-songwriter Matt Corby is fresh off of the Splendour in the Grass stage, after a world tour playing in over 95 shows and selling over 100,000 tickets, including by Glastonbury, Lowlands and Sasquatch festivals.
The hunt is also on for local performers, with the Handpicked Festival giving a South Australian act the chance to get on stage alongside the stellar line up.
“Every year I put a call out for local South Australian bands to send me their latest EP, so I get a list of about 200 every year and from that list I cut it down to five and put it to the polls on social media,” says Kate.
