From award-winning wines to the humble clothes peg – South Australia is home to an abundance of world-class produce, services, and products.

The choices we make at the checkout have the power to make a significant impact on local jobs and economic prosperity in the state.

A new SA Product Rating System and site will be making it easier than ever to buy home-grown, putting local businesses front and centre.

Developed by the Office of the Industry Advocate, the SA Product Rating System measures jobs or labour hours at key parts of the supply chain – from manufacturing, assembly, supply, distribution and installation – for a simple rating system.

Industry Advocate Ian Nightingale says that the new concept has been developed to help boost the local economy and provide an easy-to-use resource.

“It can be time consuming to find local manufacturers and suppliers [and] to know the breadth of local products on offer …so we have simplified that process,” he says.

The site will include a one-stop directory of local businesses across a range of industries, with companies displaying their SA Product Rating on their own websites.

The concept was launched on October 31, and will initially be trialled in the building and construction industry with a view to roll it out cross different sectors in the coming months.

The Industry Advocate is currently calling out for expressions of interest. Local manufacturing and supply businesses are encouraged to register their interest to get involved.

Putting South Australian businesses front and centre, the SA Product Rating System incorporates the State Brand and is proudly endorsed by Brand South Australia.

Karen Raffen, CEO Brand South Australia, says the initiative is great way to put local businesses first, and aligns with the aims of I Choose SA.

“The I Choose SA campaign is all about encouraging people and businesses to choose local products and services, and the system is a great tool to assist people in making this choice,” she says.

SA businesses who are keen to get involved can register their interest.
