From the Barossa to the Adelaide Hills, there are more than 200 cellar doors scattered within an hour’s drive of Adelaide, offering wine lovers a variety of experiences as well as a world class drop.
The state knows how to do wine – and in case you needed more proof, seven businesses have just been named as winners at the 2018 South Australia Best of Wine Tourism Awards, recognising leadership, innovation and excellence in wine tourism.
As part of Adelaide’s membership to the Great Wine Capitals Global Network, South Australia joins global wine regions including Napa Valley, Bordeaux and Verona on the world stage.
All winners will go on to represent South Australia at the Great Wine Capitals international awards, held in Chile this November.

Leon Bignell, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Fisheries says the awards program is a “great opportunity for wineries to gain international exposure and recognition.”
“The seven successful businesses, in the Barossa, McLaren Vale, Riverland and Adelaide Hills, have all made an outstanding contribution to regional food, wine and tourism,” he says.
“Last year almost 40% of our international visitors visited a winery during their stay. We want them to have an exceptional experience while they are here, so they can tell their family and friends all about South Australia and encourage more people to visit.”
South Australia’s wine industry generated $2.1 billion in revenue in 2015–16 with major exports to countries including China and Hong Kong, the UK, the US, and Canada.
The four partners of Adelaide’s membership to the network are Primary Industries and Regions SA, the South Australian Wine Industry Association, the South Australian Tourism Commission and Brand South Australia.
