While most are fixated on social media, reality TV or – the latest craze – Pokemon, Roxby Downs’ Travis Hague is hooked on using pixels to reveal the beauty and uniqueness of far north South Australia.
Using colour, perspective, light, and time via the medium of photography and time-lapse videography, Travis introduces the viewer to some of South Australia’s fascinating characters, their stories and the State’s natural diversity.
Nicknamed ‘The Master of Time’, Travis is always observing, exploring and documenting his environment.
He admits he looks at the world differently, with his ‘shtick’ to make the obscure and uninteresting compelling to others.
“The only reason I’m doing this is I like the stories and the uniqueness of our region,” Travis says.
“That’s why I spend many hours out in the bush searching for unique subjects to film… and I want to tell those stories and capture the scenes in a different way,” he adds.
Trial and error and ‘how to’ tutorials is how Travis taught himself the technique involved in time-lapse videography.
His development as an artist and environmentalist is inspired by his mother’s passion for horticulture and meeting English broadcaster and naturalist, Sir David Attenborough while working on an episode of the BBC’s nature documentary ‘Life in Cold Blood’.
But, Travis is far more than a digital photographic specialist.

Volunteering his time and resources, Travis regularly shoots community events, school concerts and teaches local youth basic photography.
That and conducting wildlife photography workshops at Roxby’s Red Earth Festival and Arid Recovery, his day job at Roxby Downs Pest Management, and developing his brand Lonely Oak Films, makes Travis a real “Master of Time”.
