Prohibition Liquor Company’s Bathtub Cut Gin isn’t just the strongest ever produced in Australia; it’s now the “best”.
The South Australian-made gin was recently named Australian Gin of the Year at the prestigious New York International Spirits Competition.
At 69 per cent, Prohibition Liquor Co.’s Bathtub Cut Gin is also the highest overproof gin ever made in the southern hemisphere.
The spirit, produced at Applewood Distillery in Gumeracha, about 40km north east of Adelaide, also earned a silver medal in the gins category.
“These awards are for the quality of the spirit itself in blind tasting, so aside from the great feedback on our packaging and brand, the spirit itself is being applauded internationally, inline with the best in the world,” says co-founder, Adam Carpenter.
Now Prohibition Liquor Co. is preparing to ship its first export pallet of gin to New Zealand.
“The order to New Zealand is our first chance to really share what we are doing on an international level,” says co-founder, Wes Heddles.
“We have interest from several countries around the world, but we are taking it one step at a time, to ensure we can keep up with demand with a hand-made product and build the right relationships with distribution partners in each country,” he adds.
Prohibition’s Bathtub Cut is also a finalist for best packaging design in Australia at the Australian Graphic Design Association’s National Awards this Saturday (November 19).
“The branding and packaging is punching weight with the best in Australia, and the rest of the world, which helps the product stand out on the shelf and sell well,” says Adam, who also runs boutique graphic design business Toolbox.
Prohibition Liquor Co. has just bottled its 17th release of standard gin and fifth batch of Bathtub Cut and celebrates its first anniversary next month.
