Kangaroo Island’s spring flavours come to the Adelaide Central Market

By David Russell

Want to find out what spring on Kangaroo Island tastes like? You can tomorrow night at Eat Kangaroo Island in the Adelaide Central Market.

From 5 pm visitors to the Island Pure stall will be able to discover culinary KI and meet local producers from Islander Estate Vineyard, Kangaroo Island Source, Island Pure Dairy, The Figgery and Kangaroo Island Shellfish.

The pop-up event is sponsored by the Kangaroo Island Food and Wine Association together with Brand Kangaroo Island.

Brand Kangaroo Island Brand Manager Cathy Williams told Inside South Australia the Eat Kangaroo Island seasonal pop-ups will herald the beginning of each season, bringing Kangaroo Island’s regional producers and their seasonal products to the city.

“The pop-ups will give Central Market shoppers a chance to meet the producers, taste the products and learn more about Kangaroo Island’s food and wine story,” Cathy said.

“Kangaroo Island food and wine products exemplify the unique connection Kangaroo Islander’s have with the unspoilt environment they live in.

“From fresh seafood from pristine waters, honey from Kangaroo Island’s world famous Ligurian bees, true free range eggs (and) traditional sheep’s cheeses … Kangaroo Island produce is artisan, hand-made and exemplifies the ingenuity of the region’s producers.

Cathy said that while many people are familiar with Kangaroo Island’s whiting, lobster and honey, they may not have tried products from some of the island’s growing industry sectors.

“Growing products including olive oils, figs, wine, hand-distilled spirits from Kangaroo Island Spirits, marron and barramundi from aquaculture producers and an ever-growing range of gourmet products,” she said.
