There aren’t too many things that are good for business and the environment. But a new product launched in South Australia yesterday is aiming to help governments and big business dramatically reduce power bills, while boosting their green credentials at the same time.

The IP Hybrid HVAC fits to existing air conditioner systems, boosting energy efficiency by up to 40% and slashing carbon emissions by a third, according to Accumulus Energy Group owner and founder Anup Reghaven.

The product will be sold in South Australia by Accumulus. Owner Anup says the technology’s simplicity makes it a genuine game-changer.

“It’s basically a car radiator, but for air-conditioners. It uses a by-product – water – to increase the efficiency,” he said.

““There are 4.8 million air-conditioners in Australia. The condensate that drips from them each year is enough to fill 700 Olympic-sized swimming pools.”

Anup expects that the systems, which can be used with an overwhelming majority of conventional air-conditions, will be popular with people wanting to reduce their household power bills. He also sees huge potential to sell to government and the private sector.

“The South Australian government has an energy efficiency objective to improve energy efficiencies by 40%… we want to work with the government to achieve those targets.”

According to Anup, research has demonstrated average savings of $625 per year after installation of the IP Hybrid HVAC.

“At $1000 to retro-fit to an existing air-conditioner, the system pays for itself in two summers,” said Anup.
