Drive 90 minutes out of the city and you’ll find yourself in the picturesque Clare Valley – a drawcard in itself, but even better when you involve wine and food.
Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend kicks off this Friday, showcasing the region’s local produce and renowned wines from May 19-22. We’ve hand-picked just a few of the best events: expect relaxed charm in winery gardens, global-inspired food, ping pong, and of course, world-class wine.
1. The Gourmet Hub
The only thing better than one boutique Clare Valley winery? Five wineries. Some of the region’s favourites have teamed up for a one-stop destination featuring live music, Spanish-inspired dishes, and wine by the glass. With a riesling masterclass rounding out the offering, this is one not to miss.
Saturday 10am – 5pm, Sunday 9am – 4pm. 50 Shades of riesling masterclass, Saturday 10:30am
2. Knappstein Enterprise Winery & Brewery
If you like your food with a side of table tennis, have we got news for you. Join the Knappstein crew for a day of table tennis (winner takes home a mixed dozen of the winery’s best), as well as South East Asia street food and tunes.
Saturday 11am– 5pm
3. Lightbulb Winemakers
One awesome hotel, five maverick winemakers, plenty of cold beer… if this sounds like your kind of afternoon, we’d recommend a visit to Sevenhill Hotel, where you can meet the makers, listen to live tunes, and enjoy a brew or two.
Saturday 11am – 4pm
4. Special event: Wakefield Press
Few things team better with a good glass of wine than a good book. Wakefield Press presents a free event to celebrate the launch of On a Clare Day by Burt Surmon, with complementary wine and food supplied by Mt Surmon Wines.
Friday 3:30pm – 5pm
5. Velvet & Willow Wines
Breakfast pizza, meet a fine wine from Velvet & Willow. We think you’ll get along. In case you need extra persuasion, check out our recent profile here.
Saturday and Sunday 9am – 5pm
A hop-on, hop-off shuttle bus will be offering a safe and easy way to get around Clare over the weekend. For more information, check out the full program.
