Nothing says SA quite like a small ball of fruit surrounded in chocolate.  Robern Menz FruChocs are one of the state’s most iconic and beloved culinary exports, and they even have their own state-wide day of recognition: FruChocs Appreciation Day.

While some would argue FruChocs appreciation day is every day, the official annual celebration is set to take over Rundle Mall this Friday, August 25, where there will even be a giant FruChocs replica of the Mall’s Balls.

FruChocs Appreciation Day wouldn't be right without Mr FruChocs

FruChocs Appreciation Day wouldn’t be right without Mr FruChoc

With more than 40 million FruChocs made every year at the Menz Glynde factory, it’s no wonder the sweet treat needs a day of its own.

Robern Menz CEO Phil Sims says the sixth FruChocs appreciation day is about celebrating everything FruChocs, but also extending appreciation back to the SA community.

“South Australians have loved FruChocs for more than 65 years and it’s fantastic to have a day to celebrate Menz FruChocs, but it’s also about honouring the enthusiasm our fans provide by being supportive and great advocates for a South Australian, family-owned brand,” Mr Sims says.

“It’s important the day celebrates those people who continue to celebrate us.”

With four generations in family business, Robern Menz has over a century’s experience in concocting deliciousness, but they’re not afraid to try new ideas. From biscuits to buns, they’ve partnered with a range of other iconic SA brands, proving  that everything is better when it’s crossed with a FruChoc.

With that in mind, we put together a list of six of our favourite FruChocs collaborations:

When two become one: Krispy Kreme meets FruChocs

When two become one: Krispy Kreme meets FruChocs

1. FruChocs Krispy Kreme doughnuts
South Aussies are big fans of both brands, so it was only a matter of time before two became one. They first combined forces for FruChocs Appreciation Day last year – the results were such a hit with the public, Krispy Kreme re-released the flavour as part of the limited edition “South Aussie Favourites” range. Curious? Sample one for free at this year’d FruChocs Appreciation Day.

2. FruChocs biscuits
Pairing up with Hill’s based Emmaline’s Country Kitchen, the duo crafted a chocolate biscuit with a fruit-flavoured twist last year. It’s perhaps no surprise that the biscuit worked a treat, given that Menz & Co was one of the earliest biscuit makers in Adelaide. They first established their bakery and grocery in 1850 on Wakefield Street, and reached household name status with their Yo Yo biscuit.

3. FruChocs flavoured milk
Menz and Nippy’s first teamed up to create Nippy’s FruChoc Milk in 2014, an immediate sell-out and social media favourite. Described as a “creamy chocolate milk with apricot and peach overtones” , the flavoured milk has since become a mainstay of the range at both Nippy’s and Fruchocs.

4.  FruChocs Hot Cross Buns
Once again partnering with a family owned South Aussie business, Kytons Bakery and Menz first invented the hot cross bun as part of a radio stunt, but it was an idea worth continuing. In place of sultanas or choc-chips, the crossover saw chocolate-covered apricot balls baked into Kyton’s buns.

5. FruChocs ice cream
Just… yes. Premium peach and apricot flavoured ice cream, wrapped in chocolate, and topped with peach apricot syrup. Good things happen when FruChocs meets Golden North ice cream. Bring on summer!

6. Just… FruChocs
Ok we cheated, but it’s hard to top the original combination of fruit and chocolate.

Get your own taste of the action alongside Mr FruChoc at this year’s FruChoc Appreciation Day, with free activities including balloon artists, face painters, a photo booth, giant Jenga, music and more. Plus freebies including a FruChoc doughnut giveaway thanks to Krispy Kreme.
