5 ways to enjoy an SA Valentine’s Day

The most romantic day of the year – Valentine’s Day – is upon us.

The couriers of Adelaide are clocking up serious mileage delivering flowers to gleeful recipients, and restaurants all over town are busily loading up their playlists with cheesy love songs.

But today isn’t just about long-stemmed roses, three course meals and gushy words. It’s also a day to celebrate love in all its forms – the love of friends, partners, and family.

So, whether you’re flying solo or spending time with a significant other, here are 5 ways to enjoy Valentine’s Day in SA:

1. Make a meal of it

They say the way to the heart is through the stomach, so forget set menus and create your own DIY dinner. Visit the Adelaide Central Market and load up on all of your favourite local ingredients. Head home and cook up a midweek feast or pack your purchases into a basket, set up a picnic rug in your local park and have all your favourite foods under the summer stars.

2. Wine about it

It is Wine Wednesday after all, so why not head to your local independent bottle shop and discover a fantastic South Australian tipple. If you’re the one doing the cooking, ask your guest to bring a bottle. Team with the theme and choose a wine that’s a perfect match to your meal. We’re spoilt for choice when it comes to good wine here in SA, so you’re pretty much guaranteed to pick a winner by just closing your eyes and pointing…

3. Life’s a beach

The Valentine’s Day weather forecast is looking quite nice, which makes for a perfect evening for a visit to the beach. Pick up some fish and chips on the way and set up a relaxed dinner on the sand. Oh, and don’t forget to grab an ice cream for dessert! Go for a stroll, play some beach cricket or simply sit and watch another glorious summer sunset. How’s the serenity…

4. Rise above it all

Not a fan of the sand and surf? Head to Adelaide’s highest peak. Mount Lofty is a fitness fanatic’s favourite and while it’s an excellent workout, it’s also all about that view when you reach the top. An excellent spot to take in the sights of our beautiful city, and the ultimate selfie location. Yes, it’s a slightly different way to spend Valentine’s Day, but it’s an awesome hike with an epic (and calorie-free) reward. Besides, cardio is good for the heart.

5. Give a pooch a smooch

If Valentine’s Day is giving you a serious case of the grumps, there’s no faster way to turn that frown upside down than with a visit to a dog park. Seriously. It’s virtually impossible to be sad when you’re surrounded by a group of energetic pups playing around you. If you don’t have a fur baby of your own, ask to cuddle someone else’s. Valentine’s Day is about spreading the love, after all.
